Week 17

Dear Mom and Dad,
Hello!! Oh my goodness the weeks are certainly picking up speed now. It's really weird but there is so much to be done and all of a sudden the day is over and we are planning for the next one and then all of a sudden it's monday again haha. Thank you so much for your emails. I love them! Sorry that you had some computer problems Dad. I haven't gotten any of your letters or packages yet but they should be here sometime this week and I am super excited for them!! Ah it sounds like you are doing good and staying busy. I miss and love you all so much! I seriously can't believe it's Thanksgiving this month. We are going to have a Turkey Bowl game at the Stake Center on the Monday of thanksgiving so I am pretty stoked for that haha it's gonna be fun. We played basketball last week and I am getting pretty horrible at basketball so I just push people around and get the rebounds haha. Well that's too bad that the football team lost but now we enter the season of men. I will always remember that quote on the wrestling door wall that is signed in your name dad hahaha ah so funny. And tell the whole town that I say hi back when they ask!
Um I'm not really sure if I really need anything. I guess I could use either a small umberella or like an electric shaver. I am going to buy some yarn and some knitting needles today. I learned how and I am like obsessed haha I know it's weird but hey, missionaries are weird haha. I might be able to use some good black, warm leather gloves. And sorry about the pictures. I really can't figure out why they send weird. But thank you so much for sending pictures! I seriously love them. That one of us at powell is hilarious.
It has been a very good week here in Stockport. Elder B and I are just amazed at how much work there is to be done here! I am so grateful for Elder B. He is truly such a great missionary and District Leader. He has taught me so much and we have been working so hard together. We have also had a lot of fun together and each day is filled with miracles and enjoyment! I am truly grateful for his Diligence and Focus in this work. We both feel that the work is about to explode here in Stockport. We have built our investigator pool up to about 6 solid investigators and we are working really hard with the ward to be able to teach all of our investigators in a members home. The ball is starting to roll and we can see the ward starting to get excited and supporting Missionary Work.
I seriously love serving with Elder B. We have so much fun together! The past Elders here were pretty disobedient though so it has been a little bit harder for us to gain the trust of the members and to have serious lessons with Less Actives. Our ward mission leader told us yesterday though that he is amazed at the difference we have already made in the ward and he said that they are all so grateful and have noticed our hard work. Just that right there made it all worth it. It is so stressful planning appointments and setting up times and trying to get members there to teach with us and being on time, but when you finally get there and have a short very powerful and spiritual lesson, it is all worth it.
Bryan B is dated for baptism on the 17th of January. We have had some really good lessons with him and he knows that it's true and he is keeping all of his commitments. He still needs to give up smoking and coffee but told us that by the end of next week it will be gone. We talked a lot with him about the enabling power of the Atonement and how he is certainly not alone in his course to follow his Savior Jesus Christ. He has also attended church 2 weeks in a row. We are also teaching a single mother who has a daughter named Honey and she is 7. She has expressed a desire to be baptised but we don't have a specific date for her yet. She also attended church yesterday.
Last week we were stopped on the street by this Less Active women from a different ward and she asked us if we could give her a blessing sometime. She is staying with this old man named Alan and taking care of him because his wife passed away 6 weeks ago and he is really struggling. He is a member of the Salvation Army. The first time we went over we gave both of them a blessing. Alan was very grateful. He suffers from heart failure, diabetes, he is legally blind, and his leg is in a boot right now because the bones are weak. The next time we went over we just provided some service for him around the house and also told him a bit about the Book of Mormon. He invited us back a third time. The third time we got talking about his wife so we told him how families can be Eternal. He was very fascinated by this. He expressed to us how brilliant he felt when we were teaching him. He said that the Plan of Salvation made perfect sense to him. He told us he has the desire to be baptised again because he just felt he needed to. We are so excited for him and my heart swells with love and compassion when we teach him. He is a very good, honest, and humble man.
We had a lot of meetings this past week and I was able to learn so much about finding techniques as well as working with members. I hope and pray that we can continue to strive to involve the members in the work and we know that this is how success will come.
I was reading in Jacob chapter 5 this week and I love that Parable the Jacob outlines. I noticed within the chapter how many times the Lord of the Vineyard said the words we, ours, and us. The Lord is here directing the work. He never says you go and do but he says let US labor diligently. I can feel the Lord directing us in the work each and every day and I know with all of my heart that He and his angels are here laboring beside us and preparing the hearts of the people. I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be able to be apart of this great work at this time.
I love you all from the depths of my heart and soul and pray that you have an amazing week!!

Love
Elder Wilcox
